The Benefits of Healthy Relationships

Let's talk about friends with benefits (…no, not that kind!)

More often than not, we tend to attribute health to our physical well-being.  Whether it’s making it to Jazzercise classes 3-4 times a week, opting for veggies over your favorite carb-heavy indulgence, let’s not forget the importance of our mental and emotional well-being.

Healthy relationships offer lasting benefits.  Whether it’s with friends, your partner, your tribe or your fit fam – healthy relationships attribute to your overall health in more ways than you’d think.

For instance,  a University of Chicago study found that people who were married or long-term committed relationships showed a reduced production of stress hormones – meaning those in committed relationships handled stressors better than those who were single.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention how it can affect your Jazzercise attendance!
When you’ve got your fit fam holding you accountable for your workouts, you’re less likely to skip a day.  Knowing that you get to see some of your favorite people while engaging in your favorite physical activity helps motivate you to squeeze that class into your day.  Not to mention, having those endorphins pumping through all of you can only lead to a happier well-being! (Maybe link to: https://www.fitnessmagazine.com/weight-loss/tips/motivation/workout-buddy-benefits/)

“It’s a lot easier to take on healthier behaviors when you surround yourself with people who are doing the same” - Northwestern Medicine.  Eating well, exercising regularly, laughing often are just a few of our favorite healthy habits.  What are yours?

We can agree, that healthy friendships make us feel good. Luckily, science backs it.
“Friends also play a significant role in promoting your overall health. Adults with strong social support have a reduced risk of many significant health problems, including depression, high blood pressure and an unhealthy body mass index (BMI).” Mayo Clinic

So, in this month of hearts and heart health- be sure to surround yourself with people who share the love.
